Update: Bloody trail at Margate murder scene

WORD at Margate pier is that a man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a car guard whose body was found in a shallow pool of water early this morning.

Fishermen who arrived at the crack of dawn to throw a line discovered the body between the rocks on the right hand side of the the Margate pier.

The victim, who is known to many in Margate, was described to the Herald reporter as being friendly to his customers.

According to police, he was stabbed in the back and chest.

Once at the pier, the crime scene didn’t need much pointing out, and the reporter saw large bloodstains near the rubbish bin, outside the toilets, and splatters of blood on the rocks below the pier.

It appears that either the bleeding man was dragged over the boulders on the right side of the pier or he had tried to escape from his attacker, who was allegedly known to him.

According to some fishermen, the incident must have taken place after 2am, as that was the time some of the locals  left the pier.

This incident is not linked to the near drowning that occurred yesterday at the pier.

An official statement from police is awaited.
