HSN learns about sexual offences

An informative talk on drugs was also given.

SUID-Natal High pupils were captivated by a recent talk on the definition, investigation procedures and consequences of sexual offences, delivered by Detective Sergeant Britt Edwards of the FCS.

Dealing with these types of cases on a daily basis, she could expertly answer all of the many questions posed by the pupils.

Detective Warrant Officer Bruce Reid from DPCI: Organised Crime, who has many years of experience in the investigation of drug-related cases, delivered an equally informative talk on the different types of drugs and their effects on people, as well as the legal implications when someone has been arrested for being in possession of drugs.

Police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid said that samples of the different types of drugs were also shown to the pupils.

“It is important to educate our youth at an early stage about sexual offences as well as drug-related crimes, as they could have a serious effect on their further education, job opportunities or their lives as a whole,” she said.
