Umtamvuna water project kickstarts

Various communities are set to benefit from the project.

GOOD NEWS for Port Edward, KwaXolo and KwaNzimakwe communities is that a whopping R45-million has been set aside by Ugu for upgrading the Umtamvuna water treatment works. The multi-million project was launched in the KwaGoqoza area in Ezinqoleni last Tuesday.

Ugu mayor, Councillor Ntombifikile Gumede said the refurbishment and upgrading of infrastructures were due to the demand for uninterrupted water supply in communities, which is increasing greatly.

The work includes construction of the following:

* Reinforced concrete clarifier;

* Reinforced sand filter with associated building;

* A five-megalitre reinforced concrete reservoir;

* Access and internal roads together with parking area;

* Installation of pipe work and the construction of electrical/mechanical equipment.

ICON Constructions has been appointed as contractor with Vuba Engineers appointed as consultant. Both have been formally introduced to the community of KwaGoqoza.

Councillor Gumede, accompanied by Ezinqoleni mayor Amon Mpisi, turned the sod as a symbol of the implementation of the extension of Umtamvuna water treatment works.
