Hijack at shopping centre

He was forced to drive towards Gamalakhe at gunpoint.

WILLIAM James Marshall of Uvongo was hijacked at the Shelly Centre on Monday this week. Police spokesman Captain Gerald Mfeka confirmed the incident.
It appears that Mr Marshall was in the parking lot when two armed men gained entry to his vehicle. He was then forced at gunpoint to drive  towards Gamalakhe.  The men ordered Mr Marshall to stop the vehicle near the Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre.
“Mr Marshall’s wallet,  watch and ring were taken,” said Capt Mfeka. “The hijackers removed the bakkie’s keys from the ignition and flung them into the bush. They left, leaving Mr Marshall in the vehicle.”
Mr Marshall managed to find the keys and drove to a nearby farm for help.
According to Mr Marshall’s daughter, her father is very shaken and feared for his life during the ordeal. He was not harmed.
A spokesman for the Shelly Centre said an internal investigation was under way, but so far they had not found any evidence or eye witnesses to confirm exactly what took place.
“It is also in the hands of the authorities to investigate the matter further,” added the spokesman.
