Welcome to Ray Nkonyeni

He is being honoured as a struggle hero and local peacemaker during volatile times decades ago.

IT’S official. The name for the newly amalgamated Hibiscus Coast and Ezinqoleni municipalities will be Ray Nkonyeni.

This was confirmed at the special council meeting held at Hibiscus Coast council chambers on Tuesday.

Following requests in January by MEC for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs to put the name on hold, HCM spokesman Simon April has now confirmed that they are going ahead with their original choice.

Hence, we will officially become the Ray Nkonyeni Municipality after the August 3 elections.

The new municipality will comprise 36 wards and 71 councillors.

“The number of full time EXCO) councillors will be 13 which will be the mayor, deputy, speaker, chief whip, chairperson of MPAC and eight other councillors.” said Mr April.
