WATCH: Help save our sharks

The day will highlight the importance of shark conservation.

OCEAN lovers will unite to give a voice to the voiceless and highlight the plight of sharks (not the rugby kind) on Saturday, June 4.

The day will involve the Silence of the Sharks campaign, endorsed by Ugu South Coast Tourism, which will take place at Shelly Beach Small Craft Harbour.

Silence of the Sharks will take place in conjunction with the Paddle Out for Sharks event and World Oceans Day and is expected to be the biggest underwater protest ever held in South Africa.

It will be a ultra exciting day for the children from St Martin de Porres.

Dive companies, CFreaks and African Dive Adventures will be hosting the children. Wayne Marsh, or as he is better known ‘Mazambane’, will take care of the children and, if weather permits, they will go on the boats with CFreaks.

NSRI will show them around their facilities and let them get on their boats. They will be fed and given snacks from various sponsors as well as some T-shirts.

Then legendary instructor Karen Tredger and world champion surfer Heather Clark will speak to the children about sharks and their importance in the eco-system and some other interesting facts about the ocean.
