R612 accident claims two lives

It appears the driver of the light motor vehicle veered onto the wrong side of the road.

TWO people died on impact in a collision on the R612 at around 4pm last Friday.

The accident involved a loaded timber truck travelling from Creighton towards Umzinto and a light motor vehicle

Netcare 911 arrived at the scene of the accident and established that a total of four people were involved.

Reports from the scene indicated that the driver of the light motor vehicle veered onto the wrong side of the road and smashed into the right front wheel of the timber truck.

The truck’s tyre burst and both vehicles veered out of control plunging about 30 metres down a steep embankment.

The driver of the light motor vehicle and the rear seat passenger, who were declared dead on scene, were trapped in the vehicle along with a third passenger – Siyabonga Cyril Zulu (32) – who survived the impact.

Using the jaws of life, paramedics freed the two lifeless bodies as well as the survivor from the wreckage of the vehicle.

“The deceased were later identified as Ntuthuko Miya (29) and Nkosinathi Dzanibe (20),” said Scottburgh SAPS communications officer Captain Vincent Pandarum.

Mr Zulu sustained serious injuries and was treated on the scene before being transported to GJ Crookes Hospital in Scottburgh.

“The driver and only occupant of the truck escaped unhurt. All three occupants in the car were from Creighton and were visiting at Braemar,” said Captain Pandarum.

Both the truck and the light motor vehicle were extensively damaged.
