Four E-tolls for the South Coast

More bad news for motorists, as the prospect of E-tolls appears imminent.

FOUR E-tolls will be placed on South Coast roads in time for the July winter holidays.

The authorities have identified the busy highway (especially during holiday season) as one that can bring in vital income to sustain certain developments in the area.

The tolls will be placed at Hibberdene, as motorists enter the ‘Lower South Coast’, as well as near the off-ramp to Shelly Beach.

A third one will be built near the bridge at Port Edward, so that those going to and from the Eastern Cape will also be able to make contributions.

Unfortunately for already cash-strapped motorists, taking the ‘old road’ won’t help either, as a toll will be set up near the old Uvongo Bird Park, what was a famous landmark.

It is believed that one of the developments that requires cash is that of the informal settlement near the highway, which requires an electric fence to built all the way round it.

Spokesman for the roads department, Dr Aprille de Fouley, said it was high time motorists in this region coughed up.

“It is not fair that only the city drivers have to pay. Coastal towns must pay to,” he said.

E-toll cards will be sent to those with driver’s licences by post within the next two months.
