Angry workers want ‘DD’ Naidoo out

The municipal manager has been accused of corruption.

UGU workers downed tools this morning and toyi-toyied outside the municipal offices in Port Shepstone, demanding that municipal manager ‘DD’ Naidoo and several other municipal officials step down. The angry workers accused the municipal manager of corruption and claimed that he had let the municipality down.

“When he first took office he promised we would see improvements within the municipality,” said South African Municipal Workers’ Union spokesman, Francz Zama. “However, the state of the municipality is getting worse by the day. The municipality would be better off if it were placed under administration.”

Workers handed over a memorandum outlining their grievances and asked that the municipality respond within seven days. Mr Naidoo accepted the memorandum and promised that he would respond.
