Water shedding continues

Consumers are urged to use water wisely.

LAST WEEK a notice was issued by Ugu District Municipality stating that water shedding would become effective as of December 24 due to higher than normal demand for water supply.

According to municipal manager DD Naidoo, areas affected are those with a high draw rate, identified through a technical analysis. He added that information regarding areas which will be affected is displayed in all shopping centres on the South Coast.

According to the notice, these areas include Shelly Beach, Uvongo, Manaba/Margate, Gamalakhe, Marburg and Oslo Beach.

Water shedding will be effected daily between 11pm and 5am. The municipality’s spokesman, France Zama, said that water shedding looks set to continue on the South Coast as the Mzimkhulu supply system is ‘experiencing a higher supply demand because of a high occupancy rate between Hibberdene and Ramsgate’.

Ramsgate residents say that they have been feeling an even bigger pinch, as they have had no water several times since Tuesday last week.

This week Ugu reported that water supply in the Ramsgate area had been interrupted due to a technical fault that their technicians were still investigating and they were working on restoring water supply.

Mr Zama has pleaded with all communities to adjust their water usage patterns and to use water wisely.
