Internet cafe opens at Tweni library

Access to libraries creates and sustains a reading culture.

UMTENTWENI Library has opened an internet cafe to provide a space for personal computer use to its residents, students and the community at large.

The project was unveiled last Thursday with a number Umtentweni residents and the Umtentweni Ratepayers’ Association attending.

Thembi Khawula, manager of libraries, said: “Public libraries are considered fundamental to the development and upliftment of communities. Access to libraries creates and sustains a reading culture. The value of libraries in terms of support of literacy, education and the principle of lifelong learning forms an integral part of our modern democracy.

“To ensure the provision of these services, the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Library Service is committed to improving public library access in all communities, developing and sustaining a culture of reading and the provision of access to information for all,” she said.

She added that it was a pleasure to assist the community and thanked all for making the internet cafe possible. Children would also be kept busy during holidays as the library had set up two computers for games.

The cafe would also help pupils to do their projects in the new schooling year. For more information on the internet cafe contact the library at 039 6952364.
