Update: School pupil stabbed for R10

The schoolboy accused of carrying out the attack has appeared in court.

AN argument over a mere R10 between two Margate schoolmates ended in one of them being stabbed  last Thursday.

The grade 11 pupil from Margate Middle School was stabbed in the chest and shoulder at a house outside the school property.

The pupil then ran to his school for help and was assisted by teachers who called an ambulance.

Police Gerald Mfeka said the  classmate suspected of stabbing the boy only reported to Margate SAPS on Monday this week, four days after the incident.

He appeared in Ramsgate Magistrate’s Court the same day for alleged assault and was released under his parents’ supervision. The case was postponed to Monday, November 30.

THE teen who was stabbed yesterday is a grade 11 pupil from Margate Middle School. He is recovering in hospital.

The stabbing occurred at a house outside the school property, said police spokesman, Captain Gerald Mfeka.

“Margate detectives are investigating assault and grievous bodily harm cases. It is believed the row erupted after an argument over R10. The pupil was stabbed in the chest and the shoulder,” he said.

The pupil ran into the school for help and was assisted by teachers who called for the ambulance.

Police are yet to make an arrest.

A MARGATE pupil suffered two stab wounds at school yesterday (Thursday), said spokesman for Kwazulu Private Ambulance, Belinda Catchpole.

Ms Catchpole said the 17-year-old had been stabbed with a knife by a fellow pupil.

“It is unclear at this stage what led to the stabbing. The school called an ambulance to assist the boy, who was in a serious condition,” said Ms Catchpole.

“Once he had been stabilised by paramedics he was transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.”

An official police statement is awaited.
