Swimmers go the extra mile

Some of KZN's top swimmers made an appearance at the annual Lake Eland Mile.

SWIMMERS of the Lake Eland Mile last Sunday had the opportunity to swim alongside one of the fastest professional open water swimmers in the world, Chad Ho.

Chad won three of the main races of the day, not surprising, since he is a six-time titleholder of the aQuellé Midmar Mile.

Speaking to the Herald, Chad said he was happy with his win saying the ‘conditions were ideal’.

Shew! And is this sportsman busy. He is off to Rio in December and then to Plett to do a charity swim and then jetting home for Christmas and New Year.

His focus is now on qualifying for the 2016 Rio Olympics at trials to be held in Portugal in June next year. At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing Chad made South Africa proud by finishing in ninth place.

“Olympics is my ultimate goal and to compete for a second time would be an awesome achievement. I still have work to do but I feel very confident,” he said.

Ending on a high note, down-to-earth Chad thanked the Herald for its ongoing support and interest in his career.
