‘Salty water’ leaves South Coast thirsty

We are rapidly running out of water.

REPORTS are flooding in from people all along the South Coast who say the water flowing from their taps ‘tastes like the sea’.

Apparently, due to the low rainfall, the salt content of the Umzimkhulu river has increased dramatically and this salty water has now reached the pump station.

Due to this high salt content, Ugu has had to drain the Bobhoyi system and move the pumping system much further up the river in order to access fresh water.

Pumping began late on Saturday night and the system is filling up. Fresh water is expected to be restored to all areas by this morning.

It is believed that several local stores have run out of bottled water. Again, consumers are encouraged to conserve every drop of water possible as the drought tightens its grip.

A media briefing is scheduled for later today.
