ANC branch chairman shot three times

It is thought the shooting may have been politically motivated.

WARD 7 ANC branch chairman Albert Spar Nxumalo (42) was shot at his home in Nkamoini location in Gcilima, near Southbroom last Wednesday night.

“According to Mr Nxumalo’s wife, who was preparing supper at the time, she heard gunshots. She rushed to the bedroom and found that her husband had been shot,” said police spokesman, Captain Gerald Mfeka. “The gunman fired the shots from outside the bedroom window and Mr Nxumalo was struck three times in the right leg.”

Mr Nxumalo was taken to Gcilima clinic and was later transferred to hospital. He was released on Tuesday this week. On Monday this week the Herald received information that the shooting had been politically motivated.

Sipho Dlamalala,  ANC regional spokesman, said at this stage it could not be determined whether or not the shooting was politically motivated and was awaiting the outcome of the police investigation.

Margate police are investigating a case of attempted murder. No arrests have yet been made.
