Tender fraud scam: businesses warned

Businesses are cautioned to be aware of this scam.

TWO local businesses were recently scammed into tendering for equipment allegedly required by the ‘Department of Transport’ and the ‘Department of Water and Sanitation’ in Pretoria.

Police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid, said that the goods were given to the supplier, who then delivered them to the ‘departments’.

However, the businesses had no way to recover the goods as there was no such ‘department’ as the details were fraudulent.

“Businesses are cautioned to be aware of this as there are certain protocols to follow when tendering for services to government departments,” she said.

Warrant Officer Heidi van der Merwe, who is the investigating officer, can be contacted at 039 6881183 or 084 7578691 with any information.
