Motorists robbed while changing tyre

The man and his girlfriend were robbed of their cellphones, handbag, cash and jewellery.

UMKOMAAS SAPS are currently investigating a case of armed robbery after two people were robbed of their personal belongings near Umgababa last Wednesday.

A motorist and his girlfriend were driving along N2 freeway when their vehicle hit a rock which had been placed in the road. The impact caused a tyre to burst,  bringing the vehicle to a halt.

As the driver was changing the tyre, he was approached by three suspects, armed with guns. The man and his girlfriend were robbed of their cellphones, handbag, cash and jewellery.

KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Mmamonnye Ngobeni condemned the incident. “We would like to warn motorists to be vigilant and avoid stopping in isolated areas if possible. They should rather call the police for assistance, using the Crime Stop number 08600 10111, ” she said.
