ELM and Mittal revive relations to strengthen service delivery

All the small projects in Wards 5, 9 and 10 are intended to improve the overall appearance of the area, and to promote Vanderbijlpark as a destination of choice for trading.

VANDERBIJLPARK.- As part of upholding the statutory authority of providing services within the municipal boundaries, the Emfuleni Local Municipality’s (ELM) Chief Operations Officer (COO), Mothiba Mogofe, together with representatives from the office of the MMC for Public Works met with ArcelorMittal South Africa’s management to strengthen working relations and restore a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for service delivery.

The ELM said in a statement that comparable to the MoU signed on September 1, 2022, this year’s agreement seeks to assist the municipality by availing funds for maintenance work such as pothole patching, road markings, stormwater catchment cleaning, tree pruning, illegal dumping removal and grass cutting.

The ELM further said that all the small projects in Wards 5, 9 and 10 are intended to improve the overall appearance of the area, and to promote Vanderbijlpark as a destination of choice for trading.

Mogofe said: “As the new driving force behind working relations with ArcelorMittal, I will ensure that this collaboration thrives by advancing service delivery programmes that are a key part of the agreement.”

He further said that the municipality is looking forward to partnering with the Vaal Business Forum (VBF) by identifying how all local companies can contribute towards elevating services in Emfuleni in consideration of improved business.

“The municipality views strategic collaborations between the public and private sector as a means to improve the lives of the people of Emfuleni. This partnership is a living testament of such. ELM is looking forward to forging a fruitful long-term relationship with the VBF. We need this partnership to strengthen the municipality,” added Mogofe.
