Catch a ‘Big one’ at the Vaal Dam, Deneysville, Gauteng’s “Land-locked Sea”

Why spend your hard-earned cash on toll gates and petrol when you can save it for a Vaal visit just down the drag, one hour from Joburg, at Gauteng’s ‘land-locked sea'?

In this, the first follow-up to our announcement of the launch of the Vaal Dam Lifestyle supplement to service the Vaal Triangle, of which the Vaal Dam is, in fact, the hub and Deneysville is at its centre, we issue a BIG challenge to water destinations!

The Vaal Dam is big. Big waters – it’s a fully-fledged water way, 1000 running km in circumference; it has an island, ‘Groot Eiland’ and it’s home to ‘BIG catches’.

In fact some may suggest that we have fish ‘flying’ out of the dam!

Pictured here is a regular catch plus one ready to be ‘cleaned up’ hanging on our holiday complex washing line – clearly a joke made by a proud fisherman of the day.

And the dam is just an hour from Jo’burg by road.

It’s a unique tourism town dominated by marinas, working harbours, clubs and Pubs – literally “on every corner” – ideal for the ‘Tot Trot’ contingent!

The Deneysville CBD boasts all the infrastructure of a small town: clinics, chemist, schools, hardware stores and shops – we even have a castle!

With a friendly community who affectionately refers to Deneysville as “the small village with the big heart”, we have numerous activities for residents and visitors.  Besides fishing – the Vaal Dam is heading to become the bass fishing capital of SA, our waters offer sailing, cycling, jogging and a well-stocked library, there are community clubs and sports like bowls, as well as events planned by residents such as the 3,5km “walk-about” through town this week end.

The town is also bursting with craft- and  bric-a-brac shops, boutiques and accommodation.  Our Island, fully fledged and 7km long, is right in the middle of North Bay, surrounded by 30m depths of water, at times when the level is high!

Deneysville is in effect a ‘border town’ and is at the ‘heart’ of the Vaal Dam, which is SA’s third-biggest dam – we call it central SA’s ‘land-locked sea’!  So instead of spending your money on expensive toll gates when driving to the sea, save it for your stay-just an hour away! (In fact, we are about 30 mins “down the drag” from Vereeniging, van der Bijl Park, Villiers and Heidelberg and, dare I mention, Sasolburg.)

Yes, officially we’re a suburb of that giant eco-guzzler, but far enough from it (30km), to present its alternative, friendly face, at a waterfront so vast that when you are sailing through the confluence, past the island, you can’t even see any land on the horizon!

Meet Vaaldam Lifestyle in Vaalweekblad – A monthly supplement focusing on the Vaal Dam area

Announcing Vaal Dam Lifestyle, an independent, monthly supplement focusing specifically on the Vaal Dam catchment area, in addition to Vaalweekblad’s content.

Our team, now working hand – in – hand with the original Deneysville News, has expanded its base to bring news and views to a greater readership.  We will showcase the hub of the Vaal Triangle’s wares and products at the Vaal Dam from Villiers to Viljoensdrif, with a focus on Deneysville, Vaal Marina and Oranjeville, Villiers to Viljoendrif! (That’s the intersection of the hi-way Deneysville off-ramp – on the R59 – Vereeniging – Sasolburg – Koppies R82 and Heilbron R57!)

Each edition of Vaal Dam Lifestyle will include an update of South Africa’s third biggest dam, the beautiful, diverse and expansive Vaal Dam.  It is the source of central SA’s cherished tourism treasures and local water sports mecca, and key to Gauteng’s drinking water.  In essence a ‘land-locked sea’, it is just a stone’s throw from city centres like Sasolburg, van der Bijl Park, Vereeniging, Joburg and Pretoria!

Advertisers will get the benefit of the Vaalweekblad’s web and Facebook links (and free, news add-ons), so readers who may have missed any hard copy can read the electronic version free of charge!

On the Tourism and Hospitality side, the Vaalweekblad reaches the core of our general market, largely consisting of local visitors who typically embrace the Vaal Dam as the heart of their leisure treasure trove (for fishing, yachting, boating, water sports, swimming and “R&R”).

There is also the robust support industry throughout the Vaal Triangle, which is naturally drawn to the surrounding villages of the dam itself to provide products and services. The Vaalweekblad provides these service with an unequalled platform for advertising.

We, as the Vaal Dam Lifestyle, can now offer this market valuable content to explore which, until now, has gone largely unnoticed.

With the above-mentioned opportunities being only a portion of the benefits, it is an inevitable progression that the Vaal Dam should set its sights upon a solid feature as a Lifestyle supplement within the Vaalweekblad’s range.  This inclusion guarantees penetration into the dam ‘s surrounding hubs, including the waterfront villages of Deneysville, Oranjeville and Vaal Marina, and the larger centres of Sasolburg, van der Bijl Park, Vereeniging and greater Gauteng – enticing our target markets up-country to our shores.

In partnership with Caxton, in time, we will build our distribution base to include printed runs each month to embrace the key segments of Caxton’s readership in Pretoria, Johannesburg. and surrounds.

Caxton local newspaper offering includes the publishing of more than 140 titles nationwide.

Adverts will be accepted with artwork provided, or alternatively they may be originated by the Vaal Dam Lifestyle team, adding value to each contract advertiser’s investment with us.
