The perfect Sunday picnic with kids

After a long and cold winter huddled indoors, the warm weather brings more opportunities to picnic outside with your children.

Yay for picnic season! With the weather warming up and Spring just around the corner, picnicking with your children is a great way to spend a Sunday, celebrating time together surrounded by the joys of nature.

Since we are big picnic lovers, we’re going to share our five tips for creating the ultimate picnic.

Choose simply, kid-friendly snacks

Pack an easy snack board spread that is portable, delicious, and kid-friendly! It helps that kids love it when moms and dads put a bunch of random things — fruits, veggies, cheese, etc. — on a plate for them to snack. Snack platters take little time to prep and zero cook time. Keep a selection of crackers, spreads, dips and drinks on hand to mix and match and let the kids add some to the day’s spread.

A thick blanket

If you don’t own a picnic blanket, a good thick blanket will do — you don’t want it too thin or you’ll feel every rock and stick and piece of grass through.

Keep food cool with a small cooler bag

Forget traditional picnic baskets. Small cooler bags are super functional and will keep your food cool so it doesn’t spoil. If you prefer feel free to get a little fancier. Lay the food out on a nice board, get some sparkling apple juice and enjoy a relaxed summer lunch al fresco!

Don’t forget a few plates, cups, and utensils

Obviously, what you’ll need will depend on what you’re serving, but it’s always a good idea to pack a few paper plates, plastic cups, and plastic utensils.

Try a new location

Go to a new town, a new park or pack up a picnic and camp out on the lawn (or a friend’s lawn!) The portability is one of the best things about a picnic.
