Three eco-friendly, homemade Christmas table trends

This year, Christmas is all about going the natural route with eco-friendly decorations and gift wraps.

This year, Christmas is all about going the natural route with eco-friendly decorations and gift wraps. The same applies to the Christmas table decor. Here are three trends to try at home:

Snackable centrepiece

Give your family, friends and Christmas lunch guests something to nibble on while lunch is being prepared by creating a snack wreath as your table centrepiece. Make your basic wreath using rosemary twigs. Lay the rosemary wreath on a plate and pack cheese cubes, rosa tomatoes, prosciutto and any other snacking favourites on top of the rosemary to create a colourful wreath. Put on the table and voila!

Less is more

Life in lockdown has (hopefully) taught us to appreciate the simple things – family, health and a cosy home. The same applies to this year’s Christmas table. We’re going for a more minimalist, stripped down feel. Bring in a sense of nostalgia by using gran’s silver cutlery or antique crockery, one tone serviettes in black, silver or a purple hue, a few white candles between the foliage and maybe a few little wooden Christmas tree decorations or a couple of spray painted, metallic pinecones here and there. Remember, what truly makes the table are the people who sit at it.

Christmas crackers that keep on giving

They are festive, fun and great decor for the table…Christmas crackers. Sadly, they are generally filled with items that end up in the bin the very next day. Enjoy Christmas crackers without feeling guilty about the plastic waste by making your own, reusable ones. Rope in the kids and get them to make special crackers for the various family members for a cute pre-Christmas craft activity. All you basically need is an empty toilet roll which you’ll stuff with confetti and little goodies, cracker snaps, fabric pieces to put around the outside, glue and ribbons to tie the ends of the cracker.
