Festive scammers on the rise, police warn residents

"When the occupants passed her, they threw a plastic (full) of fake hundred rands notes rolled with papers inside."

SEDIBENG. – The Boipatong police urge the community members of Boipatong and Sedibeng (Vaal) about scammers that have hit the area in numbers recently.

This came after a 14-year-old teenager was confronted by a vehicle that had three to four occupants inside in Siqau Street where she was robbed of two cellphones, a Samsung A03 S and a Hauwei to the value of R 5 400. Police said that the young girl was  about to enter the gate when she was approached by a white Corolla reg FB 891 FS or GP.

“The victims said she not sure of the province as it happened too quickly.”

The victim told the police that when the occupants passed her, they threw a plastic (full) of fake hundred rands notes rolled with papers inside. That is apparently when they were able to come near her.

“In another incident this syndicate or group they stop to ask you time or direction. They distract you by seeing or identifying a bank plastic with fake hundred rand and tells you to share the money with them and take you cellphones,”  said Police Spokesperson, Sergeant Themabeka Maxambela.

Police are investigating a case of robbery with firearm and urges the community to reports such activities in the area.
