Do’s and don’ts to wearing contact lenses

Enjoy the full benefits of your contacts by following this practical wear and care advice.

Make your contact lens experience effortless and healthy for your eyes with these tips:

Get into a healthy hygiene habit

Wash your hands thoroughly before touching the contact lenses and wash and dry the case after every use. Replace the case and the bottle of solution every month. Daily contact lenses must be removed and thrown away at the end of each day. Monthly lenses must be disposed of 30 days after the lens case was first opened, regardless how often you wore them.

Keep tabs on your lens wearing routine

Generally, lenses can be worn for 8 to 10 hours a day, but check with your optometrist about specific wearing times. Over-wearing lenses can lead to infections and discomfort. Give your eyes a break by swapping contacts for your up-to-date prescription glasses at least one day a week. Do not sleep, swim or shower while wearing contacts. Never rinse or store contacts with water.

Lens disinfecting solution is for your contacts only

This solution has a high concentration of preservatives to keep the solution sterile and kill bacteria, therefore it should never be used in your eye to relieve dryness as it can cause a toxic reaction.

Be aware of any symptoms

Redness, pain, tearing, increased light sensitivity, blurry vision, discharge or swelling of the eyes is not normal. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, remove contact lenses and consult your optometrist immediately.
