Another special edition from Ford

This time the already popular Ranger Raptor looked in the mirror and said: "Hmmm... its time for some fine-tuning."

So Ford added, among other things, decals and red accents.

“The new Ranger Raptor Special Edition adds even more dramatic style to this trend-setting model which remains unequalled in the popular bakkie segment two and a half years after it was launched in South Africa,” says Doreen Mashinini, general manager for marketing at Ford South Africa.

“The unique exterior enhancements and cabin updates make our off-road performance bakkie even more distinctive and desirable, while the fitment of the roller shutter as standard significantly enhances practicality and security for our customers.”

The lockable Mountain Top black roller shutter is a welcome addition and will add more security for goods stored in the load bay. Lack of the latter presents always bakkie owners with a challenge.

Sport seats and a “on-centre” marker on the steering – well, that deserves a Bell’s.

What else does the Rapture offer?

Wading depth of 850mm, 283mm ground clearance, 150mm wider front and rear track, a 32.5-degree approach angle combined with ramp-over and departure angles of 24 degrees.

Then there’s an integrated heavy-duty tow bar and heavy-duty recovery hooks.

But of course the Raptor is famous for its 2.0 Bi-Turbo, 10-speed automatic gearbox and superb Fox-based suspension.

The engine delivers 157kW and 500Nm. The power source and suspension combination makes it one of the most agile and capable bakkies – especially when driven hard and fast.

The special edition is priced at R965 300.

This includes Ford Protect, comprising a four-year/120 000km comprehensive warranty, three-year/unlimited distance roadside assistance and five-year/unlimited km corrosion warranty. A six-year/90 000km service plan is included which covers six services.
The recommended service interval is 15 000km or annually, whichever occurs first.
