According to Volkswagen, the Golf 8 GTI Clubsport comes with an improved engine, brakes, suspension as well as steering to make sure it is fun to drive.

Its power comes from a 2.0-litre turbocharged petro engine with 221 kW and 400 Nm of torque – that’s 41 kW and 30 Nm more than what the standard Golf 8 GTI churns out.

All that amount of power is accessed via an exclusive seven-speed dual-clutch transmission that sends power to the front wheels.

It propels from a standstill to 100 km/h in under six seconds and its top speed is capped at 250 km/h.

Volkswagen has fitted the Clubsport with upgraded Vehicles Dynamics Manager that integrates and eliminates the understeer you’d find in a traditional front-wheel-drive vehicle.

When compared to the standard Golf 8 GTI, the Clubsport sits 15 mm closer to the ground and Volkswagen says that it comes with increased positive camber at the front axle.

On the outside, it comes with a reworked front end that includes body-colour wing-shaped elements plus a matte black finishing. It runs on standard five-spoke 18-inch wheels and if you like, there are 19-inch wheels available as an option.

The rear comes with a high-gloss spoiler on the roof as well as the familiar GTI exhaust tips.

The interior comes standard with the brand’s ArtVelours fabric upholstery.

Perforated leather can be ordered at an additional charge. It remains to be seen if Volkswagen SA is going to offer the Golf GTI Clubsport here in SA.

If it does, it will come at a later stage after the standard Golf GTI that is slated to go on sale in the first quarter of 2021.
