Toyota SA joins the fight against Covid-19

Automotive companies across the world are all joining in the fight against Covid-19 and many are putting into place various plans to help assist those in need, those on the frontlines.

Toyota is one such company and has already made donations to the Red Cross Society of China, it has also started production of 3D-printed face shields (protective masks) in North America and Europe as well as providing shuttles for medical workers in parts of Asia but what about on home soil?

Well, one of the biggest automakers in South Africa, Toyota has implemented a Taxi Industry Support plan that comprises of making 40 vehicles available to the taxi organisations post-lockdown, supplying bulk sanitizer as well as providing promotional material. Toyota South Africa Motors hopes to flatten the curve by making these resources available to the taxi industry.

The interventions being made by Toyota are in line with Toyota Motor Company President Akio Toyoda’s sentiments which are that Toyota needs to be mindful of the feelings of those in the midst of this pandemic, reach conclusions more swiftly, make prompt decisions, and take immediate action faster than ever while focusing on safety and security as the highest priorities.

Another area in which focus is needed is that of the economy and the rehabilitation of it. Toyota South Africa aims to address economic issues by working towards and improving its own organisation while maintaining employment, the company will firmly advance its preparations with an eye on the future, pushing to contribute to the automotive sector and economic recovery as quickly as possible.

Toyota South Africa is also engaging with its 167 dealerships across the country that are on standby to support the operation of essential services during the lockdown. The company has also created an advert which consists of existing footage. The advert is currently running on digital platforms and it encourages people to stay at home and it also promotes #PrayForSouthAfrica during the lockdown.
