Entries open for 2020 Simola Hillclimb

The Simola Hillclimb motoring lifestyle event has gained a lot of popularity locally and abroad over the decades, the 2020 event will be taking place from 7 to 10 May and entries are open.

The annual event attracts a variety of different and iconic cars as well as drivers from all disciplines and eras.

From 1 October 2019 until 31 January 2020, the event has opened its ‘Request for Invitation’ process for teams and drivers that would like to take on the 1.9 km Simola Hill course. In 2019 the event introduced changes for categories and classes and because of the success will be keeping the amendments in place for the 2020 event while classes C1 and C5, previously reserved for forced induction engines only, has opened its entry requirements to allow for unlimited modifications.

Those that wish to take part can register online and request an invitation to compete; the requests will be evaluated by the organisers. “Request for invitations is not accepted on a first come first serve basis, but purely according to organisers’ criteria. Each year we have the very difficult task of selecting the final entries for the event and there is always disappointment among those that don’t cut it,” Geoff Goddard, sporting director.

“The event is significantly over-subscribed each year, and while we understand prospective participants’ desire to participate, and their frustration if they don’t make the final selection, our single most important consideration is what is best for the event as a whole. It’s by following this principle over the years that we have been able to create the high-level experience for competitors and spectators alike that have made this event such a success,” Goddard explains.

“For the 2020 Simola Hillclimb there is great potential to grow the class that caters for Sports Prototype vehicles, and the changes to the regulations are designed to facilitate this. We look forward to receiving the applications in preparation for another exceptional event next year,” Goddard concluded.
