Volkswagen gives wheels for hope

The Volkswagen Group South Africa sponsors two vehicles for organisations focused on securing the future of children with nowhere to turn.

Based in KwaZulu Natal, Clouds of Hope received a new 10-seater T6 Transporter Crewbus to assist with their operations, creating awareness and providing training on HIV/AIDS and managing the orphanages in Himeville and Underberg. The organization that was started in 2002 has become a safe harbour for 64 children in its orphanage operations. The Grootbos Foundation which was established in 2003 and based Gansbaai also got the attention from VWSA in their efforts to conserve the environment. Continuously developing new and sustainable projects within the tourism, sports and education sectors, the organisation will put the sponsored Volkswagen Polo sedan to good use.

Both the organisations will become part of the Wolfsburg based foundation, Be Your Own Hero. At the handover, Wolfsburg Mayor, Klaus Mohrs attended and thanked VWSA for its contributions to the two organisations and their outreach. “We had the opportunity to witness how much this support means for the children and the people involved. Mobility is a basic requirement for the community to access the programmes offered. We are very grateful for this support from VWSA and very proud of the engagement between the organisation and the people of Wolfsburg,” Klaus Mohrs, Mayor of Wolfsburg.

Clouds of Hope have previously received support from VWSA when they were sponsored a Transporter Crewbus. “The work done by both these organisations is close to our hearts at VWSA, as it aligns closely with some of our corporate social initiatives’ key focus areas. We hope that these new vehicles will prove invaluable in protecting and uplifting the children and families that benefit from their tireless efforts. As VWSA we are proud to play our part in their journey to better lives in their respective communities, and we hope to continue making a difference in these lives,” Thomas Schaefer, Volkswagen Group South Africa Chairman and Managing Director.
