Vodacom World in Midrand becomes world’s largest digital communications mall

The revamped Vodacom World mall in Midrand has been transformed into the largest digital telecommunications mall in the world.

Gauteng’s newly launched Vodacom World mall in Midrand, opened to the public in December 2018 is now the world’s largest telecommunications mall. The Vodacom World mall was completely refurbished and now has  6 000m2 of shopping and technology space.

The extensive revamp project was managed and carried out by construction and property solutions company Prolifica. Profica’s chief executive, Tim White said: “Beyond the concept, interior design and the branding, we delivered the project for Vodacom World as a full engineering design and build turnkey solutions partner using a team of experienced professionals. We took the risk to deliver it in a very tight timeframe and worked very closely with the clients to make their vision a reality. We believe it will offer customers an experience that showcases the best evolving technology.”

Vodacom World mall now has exclusive rooms which make it possible for customers to experience mobile-enabled technologies with coding workshops, gaming demos, IoT products, and more. “With a total of 138 LED screens, 830 LAN points, 41 km of cable and 12 000 m of fibre involved in the project the mall is certainly connected, and all the needs of these companies have been facilitated by Vodacom,” said White.

In this project, Vodacom chose to steer away from the general tenant model in commercial properties and opted to partner with several companies to deliver extensive product  displays and consumer technologies with very detailed requirements.

In addition to exclusive areas for gaming, product showcases, and virtual reality experiences the mall will make coding lessons available for children and will cater for all age groups. According to Godfrey Ajusi, senior project manager at Profica, “the project was awarded the Certificate of Excellence in Health and Safety in built environments by the Black Business Council. Vodafone also awarded the project a Gold Ticket for Health & Safety.”
