MEC stands by online registration system

SEDIBENG.- Although a number of parents will have to make visits this week to the local Department of Education in order to ensure their kids are placed in schools,  Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza maintains that the online registration system introduced by his department in 2016 works.

His statemnt comes after numerous complaints by parents of system glitches and their kids not being placed in the appropriate schools despite using the system.

SABC reports that Lesufi says the backlog is caused by parents who applied for a particular school and won’t accept a second option and  also parents that applied after the deadline and had to be incorporated into the system.

He however adds: “We’ve got almost 1.3 million parents that applied on time and their children have been placed appropriately across the entire province.”

Lesufi has reiterated that a paperless system is more efficient.  He further assured parents that as long as their applications are on the online registration system, their child will be placed.
