SEBOKENG.- Emfuleni Fire Rescue, Evaton Branch was deployed to Boiketlong informal settlement on Saturday when a young man, Thema Latha apparently set his own shack on fire in full view of family and friends.

Makamohelo Mofokeng, his neighbour, says that Latha was having relationship problems with his girlfriend and then set his shack on fire.
It is alleged that Latha was drunk at the time of the incident. Ironically the fight Latha had with his girlfriend was about his substance abuse.

“He has chosen beer over everything that matters,” the girlfriend, who prefers to remain anonymous said. Mofokeng says Latha poured paraffin over the shack before he set it on fire.
At this stage he was claiming that he was going to ‘build a massive mansion’ in its place. “I took the paraffin that was left over because I could see he was drunk. He was endangering his life but trying to pour more paraffin onto the flames,” said Mofokeng.
