SHARPEVILLE. – Noni Mokhethi (33) of Tshepiso Phase 4 and two of her children survived a fire that was set to kill them all recently.

This comes after her husband Jeremiah Tomokoane (37) allegedly attempted to kill the entire family by fire.
Mokhethi says, “My husband and I have three children. He left us three months ago to go and live at Joko-Tea squatter camp near Bophelong. During this time we had been discussing the possibility of him coming back, but he told me that he was sick and did not want to hurt me or our kids.” According to Mokhethi Tomokoane recently came knocking on their door late at night with a bottle full of petrol. She refused to open the door and that was when he apparently kicked the door in and started pouring petrol on her, himself and all over the house, setting fire to everything. Mokhethi says she managed to push her way out of the house and screamed for help:
“I started to scream, calling the neighbours for help because I knew that my youngest son would not wake up. My eldest was visiting a friend nearby and the one in the middle managed to climb out of the window.”
Mokhethi’s brother had to go into the burning container to get his young niece out.
The community managed to put out the fire but it was too late for severely burned Tomokoane as he died on arrival at Sebokeng Hospital.
