SEBOKENG. – Big Save Evaton recently held a 5km fun walk for the elderly in conjunction with The Gauteng Provincial Government Department of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation, and Evaton Hub.
Hundreds of elderly men and women took part in this exciting fun walk held to promote a healthy lifestyle amongst the elderly.
Senior citizens were invited from all centres for the elderly around the Vaal.
Big Save Marketing representative Fortunate Nkhatho says, “The event was very successful and the elderly were so energetic. They danced and some of them were even running.”
Nkhatho adds that they hope to make the event an annual one.
Sports Promotions officer Paul Makhale says, “The event was in line with the Active Ageing Programme.
“We are trying to promote healthy living amongst the elderly.
We at the department are very happy at the outcome of the event and hope that it will become an annual event.
“The initial plan was to get a lot of businesses involved to sponsor the event but Big Save ended up being the only major sponsor of the event.”
