SRSS upgrade to improve the lives of residents

Mokonyane recently told residents at the zone 14 Sports complex that not only will the upgrade of Sedibeng Regional Sewer Scheme(SRSS) improve the state of sanitation, but that it will also alleviate poverty through job creation and open opportunities for more houses to be built for the people of Sedibeng. The event saw light during the National Sanitation and Hygiene Week which took place from 11 to 15 May.

Mokonyane says, “This is a national infrastructure project, that’s how big it is and it has been placed under the presidential coordinating committee because not only is it beneficial to the local municipalities, but to the entire country.

During a tour at Sebokeng Water Works where the R4.2 billion project is currently underway, Project designer Teboho Mofokeng mentioned that the project had been delayed because of the lack of communication between the Service Provider and the community at large.

Mofokeng was adamant that there would be a lot of jobs created during the different stages of the project as the need arises, but that residents needed to understand that not all of them would be employed at the project, but would benefit indirectly as the project would open many more opportunities like that of proper sanitation and housing.

Mokonyane said the Rand Water Board, would oversee the entire project while making sure that the community in its entirety benefits from the project and the opportunities it will present.

Sedibeng residents were then given a chance to ask questions and during the session, residents revealed that some ward councilors were politicising projects that are meant to be beneficial to the entire community. residents also demanded that the labour broker that had been contracted must go as this made the little money they get even smaller. Mokonyane said that these are all things that would be looked at and dealt with.
