Reader wants clarification from the VF+

The publication by the Vryheidsfront Plus of the recommendations by Parliament’s Portfolio committee on Higher Education in last week’s Herald refers (Oversight visit to the NWU, 8 May 2015).

I don’t know how many people actually read the recommendations, but those who made it all the way to the bottom of the page would have seen Section 8.1.4, which suggested:

“Promotion and protection of human rights abuses should form part of the university’s core business…” Now, I am wondering whether this wording was actually passed through Parliament or was this bungled up by the VF+ when they compiled the text for the advert? Sadly, the former cannot be entirely excluded as a possibility.

A clarification by the VF+ would be appreciated.

Pieter Groenewald, VF+ answers:
“No, the wording was not bungled up by the Freedom Front Plus and is the precise wording that was passed through parliament. You can verify the facts in the “Announcements, Tablings and Committee Reports – No.80-2014, Friday, 24 October 2014. p. 1731” (ATC) which is available on the website of Parliament. Sad, indeed.”
