Former soccer star hosts tournament

BOIPATONG.- Former Platinum Stars player, Vincent “Gimba” Khumalo, will host the senior soccer teams’ tournament at Boipatong Grounds from December 7-9.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Khumalo who started his amateur football career on the dusty streets of Boipatong said the tournament is aimed at promoting humanity through sports.
“We have the vision to inspire humanity and it is our responsibility to ensure the Boipatong community is sustainable and we will be pleased to help them as much as we can. It is well-known that through sport we can achieve many things such as love and peace in our community.
“This is the reason we are organising this tournament. We are aware that our youth is dying because of substance abuse.
We want to stop this because some of us grew in the area and the only thing that we knew was playing
sports especially football,” said Khumalo.
To date, Khumalo was one of the most hard-working and talented players to have come from the Boipatong area and started playing for the nowdefunct The Birds FC. Apart from promoting muchneeded humility, Khumalo said the other objective of the tournament is to unearth talent and
unite the Boipatong community.
He said they want to educate young and old on how to benefit from playing sports, “We want to give them an opportunity to showcase their talent against their counterparts and we intend to invite scouts to come and witness the talent. I have no doubt that this area is blessed when it comes to talent.”
Clubs are invited to attend a meeting at Boipatong Stadium on November 30 at 11:00.
