Makgotamishe Winter Tournament underway in Sharpeville

SHARPEVILLE. - The Annual Mokgatamishe Winter Tournament for the junior soccer teams started on a high note on Monday.

SHARPEVILLE. – The Annual Mokgatamishe Winter Tournament for the junior soccer teams started on a high note on Monday.

This annual tournament attracts local soccer fans who come in numbers to watch these future Bafana Bafana stars. The tournament’s publicist King Radebe said this year’s tournament attracted lots of teams from Evaton, Sebokeng, Bophelong, Boipatong, Vanderbijlpark, Sasolburg, Orange Farm and Soweto.

Some of the well-known development teams that participate in this tournament include Celta Vigo, Sebokeng Academy, Sebokeng Ajax, Benfica, Vaal Milano, Zamdela Madrid, EYA, LSB, SUBS, Nale Academy and Ikakgeng Development Club.

Radebe said he was pleased with the quality of football displayed by these development teams since the tournament started on Monday. He was also pleased with the standard of football displayed by the senior soccer teams.
“As Makgotamishe Winter Tournament organisers we are really pleased with the commitment of the players in the field of play and the soccer fans enjoy each and every moment of the action.
We are overwhelmed by the number of supporters who come every day to watch their respective teams,” said Radebe adding that they have not experienced serious challenges since the tournament started and he was also happy with match officials, even though some teams will complain about bad refereeing, especially those who lost their games.
He adds, “There is always a room for improvement and this tournament is not about winning but to keep these youngsters busy during the schools holidays.”
