Soccer matches to start this weekend

Merafong City Local Football Association’s senior league matches for 2016 will kick off this weekend

Merafong City Local Football Association’s senior league matches for 2016 will kick off this weekend. The Association’s development officer, Hloni Kharejane, says that the organisation has many plans for this year. The current senior league is expected to continue until May while a new schools’ league is planned for March. If all goes according to plan, this league will kick off just after the schools’ athletics season. “Maybe something like this is what is needed to curb crime,” Kharejane told the Herald. He added, though, that facilities on which youngsters, in particular, can play, are too few. An open piece of ground in Khutsong Extension 4 that was used as a soccer field has recently been closed off by the Merafong City Local Municipality. It intends to build a multi-purpose facility on the site. In the meantime, various senior league matches will be played during the coming weekend. Action will start at 15:00 when Wedela United takes on Maestro at Wedela, Millennium Stars will tackle Reeds at Khutsong and Fochville All Stars will clash with Vultures in Kokosi. More matches will be played on Sunday. Action will start at 13:00 when Bashilano is set to play against Tornado in Khutsong.
Another match, between ISG Gunners and Wedela Celtics, will also be played in Khutsong at 15:00. ABC and Champion City will come up against each other in Khutsong Extension 4 at 15:00.
