Indoor soccer keeps youths busy

The first indoor soccer tournament for junior players was held at the Carletonville Sports Centre this week.

The first indoor soccer tournament for junior players was held at the Carletonville Sports Centre this week.

According to one of the coaches of the Carletonville Sports Academy, Tebogo Keitebetse, the five-a-side soccer tournament was organised to keep young people busy on Youth Day and the day before. “As far as I know, this was the first time that there has been a five-a-side tournament for u.13 and u.15 players. The young players seemed to enjoy it so much that we want to make it an annual event for Youth Day,” Keitebetse told the Herald on 16 June.

He added that the Academy’s main focus is to develop soccer players from a young age. The Carletonville Sports Centre proved to be the ideal venue for the event. Not only does it have enough indoor space for the young contestants to play, but there are also enough seats for spectators. “It is just a pity that there is no infrastructure like this venue in Khutsong as well,” he noted.

Big Surprise, a team from Wedela, came second and the Evergreen team, that hails from Blyvoor, took third position.
