SEBOKENG. – Caesar Mofoka Sports will host a school tournament in commemoration of June 16 on Tuesday.

The event is scheduled to take place at the Zone 3 Stadium next Tuesday. The schools to participate in this event are Itsebeng Primary School, Emanzini, Itukisetse, Bulatsela, Ekujuleni and Kitso. There will be a hive of activity on the day with the above-mentioned schools battling it out in soccer and netball. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Caesar Mofoka says the initiative is to remind learners of the actual meaning of June 16. Of late, he says, June 16 has lost its original meaning because there is no one to reminded young people what happened. “We are Caesar Mofoka Sports.

We want to take young people back to what happened on June 16 through sports. We all know the part sports played in this country, and that is why we have organised a soccer and netball tournament to celebrate this day. Young people died fighting for the liberation of this country and we must always honour those fallen heroes.

I also wish to thank the school principals for supporting the initiative,” said Mofoka. According to Mofoka, they host this event in conjunction the Emfuleni Local Football Association and Emfuleni Local Municipality’s Sports and Recreation Department. Apart from commemorating June 16, Mofoka believes that there is a serious need to support school sports.

He challenges parents to come in big numbers to support the initiative. He also makes a special plea to the Zone 3 community to come in big numbers to support the initiative. His sentiments were echoed by his co-partner, Kenneth Shupinyane, who says June 16 must be respected. He says as Caesar Mofoka Sports they will host this tournament annually to educate school learners about what happened on June 16.

“The tournament is to honour them for their bravery and say `enough is enough,” he concluded.
