VANDERBIJLPARK. – Jomo Cosmos boss Ephraim ‘Jomo’ Sono takes his hat off to Sedibeng soccer fans for filling the Isak Steyl Stadium to capacity when Ezenkosi played against Moroka Swallows and Black Leopards in the PSL Promotion/Relegation play-offs over the weekend and Yesterday (Wednesday).
The local crowd responded to Sono’s call to pack the venue to capacity, especially last weekend when his team played Moroka Swallows also known as ‘The Dube Birds’, in South African football circles.
Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sports after the game Sono said what his boys’ display on the day, a 4-1 win, was inspired by the crowd who cheered them on for the better part of the game.
Never before was Isak Steyl Stadium so packed as it was on Sunday with cars parked as far as VUT Campus main entrance. As things stand, Cosmos is one step into the PSL. However, their second-leg game against Moroka Swallows next weekend in Dobsonville will decide which team between the two will campaign in the PSL next season. However, at the time of going to press the results between Jomo Cosmos and Black Leopards were still unknown. “I want to thank Sedibeng fans for coming in big numbers to support the boys because without their support we are nothing. This is the region that I always admire when it comes to talent because it produces the finest talent in the world,” said Sono.
Meanwhile, at the end of the play-offs one team will join Golden Arrows, who automatically gained promotion to PSL. It will be either Jomo Cosmos, Black Leopads or Moroka Swallows who are fighting to stay in the PSL after finishing at the bottom of the Absa Premier Soccer League.
