Gods of Egypt is a fantasy action film that tells the tale of the most elaborate and influential story in Ancient Egyptian mythology.
The film is about two brothers: Osiris (Bryan Brown), king of Egypt and Set (Gerard Butler), the god of the desert. On the day of the coronation of Osiris’ son Horus (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), jealous brother Set publicly murders his own brother and casts Horus out, taking his eyes that are the source of his godly power in order to gain the throne of Egypt.
A brave mortal thief named Bek (Brenton Thwaites) loses the love of his life Zaya (Courtney Eaton) whilst escaping from enslaved Egypt.
He seeks down Horus to ask for his help to save Zaya and ultimately free Egypt from the chaotic rule of Set.
With the help of Nephthys (Emma Booth), the goddess of death, their journey towards salvation takes them through the afterlife and across the heavens to fight the ultimate battle to save Egypt.

*Gods of Egypt is rated PG13 and contains scenes of violence.*
I rate this film 4/10. For a film starring Gerard Butler and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, I was disappointed. I expected much better acting. The film was too long and had me wishing for it to end half an hour after it started.
Gods of Egypt is available for rent at DVD4home on the corner of Retief and Govan Mbeki streets. Tel: 018 293 3895.
