Let’s talk about it – Life is far more precious than money

After attending my aunt’s funeral about a week ago, I realised that death has a way of teaching us how valuable life is.

Losing a loved one can also serve as a lesson. We learn that at some point, one will perish but most of all, we learn how precious life is. We discover how valuable time is and the importance of spending it well.

The lessons teach us to make the most of our lives and to appreciate it instead of taking it for granted. They help us to actually enjoy life further.

We often miss the picture. We are here to cherish life, not to pay bills. We need to realise that there is more to life than we think and we have to continue seeking a true life that is worth living.

There are many institutions in the world that offer various courses but there is not one that will teach us about life. I cannot understand why there is no subject on life in schools – after all, it is something we are all trying to achieve. People think they spend their whole lives trying to make money but, from a broader perspective, they are actually just trying to live.

I know it will take years for many to grasp how precious life is because we are trapped in a world where all our wishes have been materialised. We only focus on accumulating money and possessions and spend the rest of our lives chasing after something that will not bring true happiness.

Speaking from my own perspective, money can only buy you comfort and nothing more. If money is your goal in life, you will never attain contentment – you will always want more.

Please, don’t get me wrong. I am not saying it is wrong to work hard to earn an honest living and become wealthy but that it is not all there is to life. The things that make life worth living are your family, your lover and friends, for example. We need to be educated about life and I believe the best teacher is life itself. Let us not be shy to talk about life because we are all students here, for us to share. Let us take the time to thank God for life as he has blessed us with an everlasting gift. Let us see the value in life and let us celebrate life by truly loving each other.
