SEDIBENG.- Jomo Cosmo FC is back in the Vaal playing their Gauteng ABC Motsepe League home games at Isak Steyl Stadium. Cosmos is no stranger to Vaal soccer fans.
Cosmos beat Eersterust Rams 2-1 in the ABC Motsepe League match on Wednesday.
It was a great game of football with Cosmos sweating for maximum points. It was action galore with both sides attacking each other from the first whistle. The handful of soccer fans on the stands enjoyed each and every moment of action.
To date, Cosmos played their National First Division matches at the venue and was promoted to top-flight football. The local soccer fans used to pack the venue to capacity for the high-profile matches. Ironically, after being promoted to top-flight football, the club decided to relocated to the North West province. This was the end of an era for Cosmos in the Premier Soccer League as it was once again relegated to National First Division.
As if this was not enough, the following season was relegated to the ABC Motsepe League where they find themselves now.
However, Cosmos boss Jomo Sono (who is also the coach) is confident that his team will bounce back to top-flight football again. Sono has assembled an exciting young team with some new players from Vaal. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Sono said Cosmos will be back in PSL because that is where they belong. Cosmos is third on the log with 15 points after they played seven games.
“I have no doubt that we will be back where we belong in the PSL. Without Cosmos, PSL is no longer the same. This is the same team that used to provide Bafana Bafana with a number of players. History is there for everyone to see that Cosmos was a feeder for South African football and we are going to continue to do so,” said Sono.
