Clothes and food for the less fortunate

“The community needs further assistance in social services and donations from private sectors."

SEDIBENG.- The residents of Sonlandpark and surrounding areas felt appreciated following a successful donation of clothes and food they received during an event held at Plot 105 in Vereeniging recently.

The event, which was also attended by the South African National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (SANCA), the Department of Health, the ANC, Youth in Action, and the local Business Forum members, saw the opportunity to raise funds, clothes, and food parcels for the less fortunate community that resides at the plot.

The programme was led by Grace Motsoagae alongside Tlhoriso Mofokeng. The purpose of the programme was to simply care for those in need, accelerate social services, and inspire and nurture the human spirit. Motsoagae and Mofokeng said they were raising funds because they recognised a poverty-stricken small community that consists of  twenty households at the plot.

SANCA Vaal’s Mathapelo Setlhare addressed those in attendance on issues of substance abuse and alcohol abuse, the importance of not using alcohol when a female is pregnant, and what it can do to the foetus. Community activist and branch secretary of the ANC in Ward 45, Tlhoriso Mofokeng, stated that service delivery is an issue and as a community it needs to be fixed.

Member of the ANC Women’s League (ANCWL) and Deputy Branch Secretary of the ANC in Ward 45, Josephine Radebe Mdlalose, stated that a lot of women find themselves vulnerable and later become victims of gender-based violence (GBV).

“The community needs further assistance in social services and donations from private sectors, NPOs, and companies so that this work doesn’t just end at Ward 45 but grows and becomes bigger and better.”

Morena Molato, chairman of the Business Forum in Ward 45 said the community should work together and partake in government opportunities like learnerships.

The community was appreciative of what they received.
