SHARPEVILLE.– A man was shot in the early hours of Sunday while on his way to work along Tau Bazaar in Phelandaba, Sharpeville.
Police said that the victim was approached by an unknown man who demanded his cellphone.
According to Sharpeville police spokesperson, Constable Busisiwe Sango, the victim threw his cellphone to the suspect in an attempt to comply. The suspect, however, took out a firearm and shot the victim before fleeing the scene with the cellphone. The police are urging the community to exercise caution, especially when walking alone in the dark.
“We advise residents to avoid walking alone during the early hours and to stay vigilant. We are also appealing to anyone with information about the suspect to come forward.”
