Man escapes hijacking, vehicle burned

"His vehicle, a Toyota Fortuner, had been set on fire and burned to ashes."

SHARPEVILLE.- A man narrowly escaped a violent attack in Market Street, Sharpeville, while dropping off his employees on Saturday.

The incident occurred when the victim stopped to drop off the last employee. Four unknown men entered his vehicle. One of the suspects strangled the victim with a shoelace, while the others assaulted him. Despite the brutal attack, the victim managed to escape and sought help from a community member, who took him to the police station to report the incident. It was later discovered that his vehicle, a Toyota Fortuner, had been set on fire and burned to ashes.

The Sharpeville police are investigating a case of hijacking. Police are also urging the public to assist with any information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Crime Stop hotline at 08600 10111 or use the MySAPS app to report anonymously.

Police spokesperson Constable Busisiwe Sango said:  “The safety of our community is our priority, and we call on anyone who might have witnessed the crime to come forward.”
