Inaugural junior tournament proves great success

Shabangu says plans are in the pipeline to grow the event and host it annually. Shabangu thanked her sponsor A&B Developments for their cash donation and Lethabong Lifestyle Foundation for supplying water on the day.

SEBOKENG. – Entrepreneur Tshepi Shabangu has given back to the community through the inaugural Mavuta Cup. The event saw various teams compete in a soccer tournament to garner first place.

Shabangu says the idea was sparked by her 13-year-old son’s love for soccer. The inaugural event took place at the Lethabong section on 06 and 07 October, with six competing teams. Other local contractor companies attended the tournament and were enthusiastic about the teams’ jaw-dropping performances.

Shabangu says, “I noticed how young boys love soccer but don’t have the resources to play. I came up with an idea to buy soccer kits for disadvantaged kids and get them to participate in the soccer tournament, which took place over two days.”

Shabangu says her main objective is to get children away from the streets where they are exposed to negative things.

“We can contribute positively to our communities if we drive our kids to do more productive things rather than let them get exposed to negative things that are out there. This is my way of giving back as a small business owner.”

Talking about the success of the tournament, Shabangu said it brought a lot of excitement.

“We are excited that the tournament brought increased awareness about what one can do in communities. Most importantly, all the teams agreed it was fair game from inception to finish.” Shabangu said ecstatically after the winning team was awarded a cup and medals.

Shabangu says plans are in the pipeline to grow the event and host it annually. Shabangu thanked her sponsor A&B Developments for their cash donation and Lethabong Lifestyle Foundation for supplying water on the day.
