Shop owners dump alleged expired goods amid police raids

The members of the community warned each other not to take the thrown away goods as this would be detrimental to their lives.

VEREENIGING.- A number of alleged expired goods were found dumped at an illegal dumping site in a street in Vereeniging on Thursday morning.

It is believed that the goods, that included snacks from popular brands, were dumped because of a police operation that is carried out every Thursday. On one of the community social groups community members bemoaned the fact that the stores of foreign nationals are closed every Thursday because, “they know they have something to hide”, and that they are given information from within as to where and when the operations will take place.

“Every Thursday when the operations are about to take place, their stores are closed and once the police are out of sight they continue operating as normal as if nothing happened. These people take us for fools, their goods are killing our children bit by bit. Look at the children that hang out at their stores, they are all addicted to something. If they close the shops when there’s a raid, it simply means the shops are illegal. If they are illegal, they should be permanently closed. Finish en Klaar,” the residents said.

Within the social groups, the members of the community warned each other not to take the thrown away goods as this would be detrimental to their lives. They also warned each other about buying the goods from any member of the community who might be trying to sell them and make some cash.

The goods were later burned.

Sedibeng Ster could not determine the source of the thrown away goods at the time of going to print.
