New hospital on the horizon for Orange Farm

Land has been identified for the Orange Farm Hospital and suitability investigations are nearing completion.

SEDIBENG.- A new hospital for Orange Farm is being planned and the refurbishment of the Mortuary and Neonatal High Care at Kopanong Hospital is complete.

This was revealed by the Gauteng MEC for Health and Wellness, Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko, during a media briefing in Pretoria last week. Nkomo-Ralehoko said that several wards are currently undergoing renovations at Kopanong and that over and above these projects, the department continues to expand access to primary healthcare through the addition of new facilities.

“Clinics such as Kekana Gardens, Greenspark, Sebokeng Zone 17, Dewagensdrift, Finetown, Philip Moyo MOU and Westbury MOU have been completed and handed over to communities. We understand that infrastructure is the backbone of our healthcare system, particularly as Gauteng’s population continues to grow. According to the latest mid-year population estimates for 2024 from Statistics South Africa (Stats SA), Gauteng is home to nearly 16 million residents, many of whom rely on public healthcare services,” she said.

Nkomo-Ralehoko said that they are actively implementing plans to build four new hospitals in Soshanguve, Daveyton, Orange Farm and Diepsloot.

“These hospitals will add to the existing 37 public hospitals in Gauteng and bring the total to 41 and contribute positively in expanding access to healthcare and bridge the healthcare gap in township areas. This initiative will also address regional disparities in healthcare provision which is a crucial step towards achieving our vision of a universal healthcare system.”

Meanwhile, land has been identified for the Orange Farm Hospital and suitability investigations are nearing completion.
